TMJ Deprogramming ENG

  • 3 Steps

About

Every occlusal record you take is only as trustworthy as the jaw position it was taken from. Yet most clinicians were never formally taught how to separate a patient's habitual bite from the true, musculoskeletally stable position of the temporomandibular joint. This course closes that gap. Over one intensive session, you will learn why habitual closure is a learned neuromuscular pathway rather than a fixed skeletal reference, and how that single fact quietly undermines full-mouth rehabilitations, implant-supported prostheses, occlusal equilibrations, and orthodontic mountings when it goes unaddressed. You will leave with a clear, working command of centric relation versus maximum intercuspation, the physiology of muscle engrams, and four complementary deprogramming techniques you can start applying immediately: the Lucia jig, the anterior leaf gauge, long-term anterior deprogrammers, and bimanual manipulation. This is not a theoretical lecture. Every technique is presented as a step-by-step chairside protocol, complete with material choices, timing, verification checks, and the specific pitfalls that most commonly compromise a case. A full clinical workflow ties everything together, from initial screening through diagnostic mounting, provisional verification, and definitive delivery, illustrated with a real full-mouth rehabilitation case. We also take an honest look at the evidence base. You will understand what the literature and current guideline bodies genuinely support, where reasonable clinicians still disagree, and how to avoid the single most common planning error in this area: treating a CR-to-MIP discrepancy as an automatic indication for irreversible treatment rather than one piece of a complete diagnostic picture.
